Earlier this year, boutique American manufacturer Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus released some photos and a video of its 004C GT3 race car, which is based on the upcoming 004C road car and will compete at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring later this year.
Now the company has announced another 004C-based project – though this latest vehicle is a lot different than the 004C GT3 and 004C road car. The vehicle pictured above is SCG’s new 004 ‘Mini Boot’ kit car. The kit car will ship to owners unassembled, similar to a Caterham 7 or other kit cars, and has been designed around the General MotorsEcoTec four-cylinder engine. The engine will link up to a Sadev sequential transaxle.
In a statement released on its Facebook page, SCG says the 004 Mini Boot will be two-wheel drive with the option for four-wheel-drive. It may ve eligible for the Baja 1000, Dakar rally and other big off-road racing events, similar to the GM LS V8-powered SCG Baja Boot that beat the Ford Bronco R in last year’s Baja 1000.
SCG is still working out the pricing for its 004 Mini Boot kit car, but it has confirmed the vehicle will be available to order directly from its web store. To reiterate, this is a kit car, so the owner will have to build the vehicle themselves. It won’t be sold with an engine, either, so buyers will also have to source the EcoTec engine themselves. We assume it could also accommodate a different four-cylinder other than the EcoTec as long as it was similarly sized, though we’re only speculating on that part.
“The idea is a ‘fun car’ like the dune buggy (Steve McQueen) drove in The Thomas Crown Affair, an off-road racer or a ‘home build kit car’ with all components meeting the DOT requirements for NYS homebuilt/custom kit cars,” SCG said of the 004 Mini Boot.
We’ll be paying close attention to this interesting off-road kit car project, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. SCG seems to be an exciting up-and-coming brand for GM fans., with the company also using LS V8 power in the aforementioned 004C, 004C GT3 and Baja Boot vehicles it is working on.
